2024 Spring Hikes

8 Km Nature Hike on the Grand Valley Trail

Thursday April 25, 1 pm to 3 pm


Join the Woolwich Trails Group on Thursday April 25 for an 8 km nature hike on the Grand Valley Trail, near Wilson’s Flats. Explore the beauty of nature in the spring along this earthen trail with varying topography and beautiful vistas of the Grand River.


Hiking shoes or boots are recommended. Not suitable for strollers or dogs.


Please meet at 12:45 pm in the parking lot along Eight Line West----100 metres west of Wilson’s Flats. From West Montrose, take Middlebrook Road/Township Road 62 north and turn east or right onto Eight Line. About 300 metres before the Grand River Bridge, you’ll see a parking lot on the left/north side of the road.

2 hour hike Birding Hike
on the Health Valley Trail in St Jacobs.

Saturday May 4, 1 to 3 pm


Join members of the Woolwich Trails Group for a spring birding hike with local birder Mark Bauman to explore birds along the Conestogo River.


Meeting location: Meet Mark at the trail entrance in the municipal parking lot at 35 Albert St. E., St Jacobs. From the south, take King St. north into St. Jacobs. Turn east or right onto Albert St. (Home Hardware is on the corner). At the curve in the road turn left or east into the municipal parking. Drive east through the parking lot to the kiosk at the trail entrance.


Trail rating: earthen natural path and granular on varying topography.

Please, no dogs or strollers.

“Seasons” Summer Solstice Hike
at the Elmira Nature Reserve

Thursday June 20, 9 am


Join hike leader Susan Bryant and members of the Woolwich Trails Group on Thursday June 20 for a two-hour exploration hike at the Elmira Nature Reserve.

Observe the woodland plants, prairie meadows, mixed forest, and water's edge within this delightful acreage in this Summer Solstice hike and then observe how the area changes throughout the year as additional "Seasons" hikes are offered.
